The Cupboard Southport: A Grassroots Effort to Fight Food Waste and Support Sustainable Living

In Birkdale, a small but mighty initiative is making a big impact. The Cupboard Southport, located at 5 Longford Road, is a local community food cupboard dedicated to reducing food waste and encouraging sustainable living—all while supporting those in the community who may need a little extra help.

The concept is beautifully simple: surplus fresh food, often perfectly good but at risk of going to waste, is made available to the public for free. From fresh vegetables and salad items to fruit, bread, and more recently stocked cool boxes for chilled goods, The Cupboard offers a wide selection for anyone to access—no questions asked.

Donations are always welcome, whether you're dropping off surplus produce, baked goods, or just want to support the initiative financially. A donation slot is conveniently located on the side of the tall grey cupboard, just above the cool boxes, making it easy to contribute.

More than just a food-sharing spot, The Cupboard Southport champions the idea of community-led action—a place where residents come together to help the environment and each other. By redistributing food that might otherwise be binned, the project tackles climate concerns and community need in one simple but effective space.
